Choirs
There are singing opportunities at Nativity for anyone starting in the 3rd grade through adulthood. Our choirs sing for Sunday Eucharist as well as several services of Choral Evensong a year, an annual Lessons and Carols service, Compline, and other special services throughout the year such as Holy Week, Easter, Ash Wednesday, Christmas, etc. The choirs’ main season runs from Labor Day through the Day of Pentecost (Sept-May/early June). Historically during the summer months, the choir has also travelled to various places to sing for services. In 2020 our choir was scheduled to sing for a week residence at Ely Cathedral and a weekend at Westminster Abbey. Unfortunately that tour was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For more information about joining one of our choirs, please contact Director of Music Aaron Tan at atan@nativity-hsv.org or (256)-533-2455 x 207.

Chancel Choir
Rehearsals Wednesdays, 7-9pm
Sings at 11am Sunday Eucharists
The Adult Choir is a non-auditioned choir supported by four staff singers, and sings a vast repertoire rooted in the Anglican tradition but also regularly incorporating a diverse range of idioms. Special services include monthly Evensongs and the popular Lessons and Carols service in December.
Parish Choir
Rehearsals Sundays, 8am
Sings at 8:45am Sunday Eucharists
The Parish Choir is a non-auditioned choir supported by two staff singers and is designed for those who enjoy singing but do not have the ability to commit to a weeknight rehearsal. The Parish Choir meets on Sunday mornings only, immediately before the 8:45am service.
Nativity Choristers
Nativity Choristers (3rd to 12th grade)
Rehearsals Wednesdays, 5-6pm in the chancel (beginning January 14, 2026)
The Nativity Choristers provides an opportunity for young voices to participate in learning and making music at Nativity. During the school year, our choristers rehearse weekly for select Sunday morning Eucharists and the occasional evening service. Our choristers begin learning music theory, musicianship skills, vocal technique, and the “ins and outs” of liturgy during these rehearsals. They also develop a deeper appreciation for the centuries-old tradition of sacred music that enriches the weekly worship at Nativity. More senior members also serve as mentors and role models for more junior members, fostering a sense of community and mutual respect for one another.
To join, please complete the enrollment form for 2025-2026 here. Director of Music Aaron Tan will then set up an informal meeting with you and your child. For more questions, contact Aaron at atan@nativity-hsv.org.
Schola
The Schola is a select group of experienced singers at Nativity that specializes in polyphony and plainsong repertoire. You can primarily hear them at Compline services throughout the year, though the group will occasionally sing on Sunday mornings as well.
