Nativity Choir

The Nativity Choir is made up of nearly fifty individuals who sing weekly for the 11:00 Sunday Eucharist from Rally Day to Pentecost. There is a wide range of age and ability in this group, but all share the common goal of offering up great sacred music on a regular basis. The choir's repertoire spans many centuries, from simple plainchant and renaissance motets, to modern American compositions. In addition to singing an offertory anthem on Sunday, the choir sings a motet at communion, and sings the Psalm weekly as well. However, the choir's ministry is not confined to Sunday mornings. The choir also sings Choral Evensongs, an annual Lessons and Carols service, and other special services which may arise. During Holy Week, the choir sings for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and the Great Vigil of Easter. The choir has made two tours of Great Britain and has sung at such venues as the Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, All Saints' Chapel in Sewanee, and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. At various times throughout the year, the choir will visit members of the parish who are homebound or living in assisted living facilities.
Membership in this choir is open to anyone willing to invest the time, dedication and commitment such an ensemble requires. No audition is required, just a voice placement to allow the choirmaster to hear your voice independently. The choir rehearses from August to May on Thursday nights from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM in the choir room (located in the basement of Joffrion Hall). This friendly, outgoing group of people is always happy to welcome new singers. During the summer, the Nativity Choir takes a break, but those willing to sing show up prior to the service and learn a simple anthem to sing at the Offertory.
